Most organised beaches are Kapsali, Agia Pelagia and Diakofti beach.

With more privacy and natural highlights are Chalkos, Melidoni, Avlemonas and Kakia Lagada beach. 

The most famous Kaladi and Palaiopoli beach, are the best places to relax.

  

Lykodimou, Vroulea, Feloti and Kalami beach belongs to alternative secret spots to discover and spend time with privacy.

Sites

The island have a rich history from

the prehistoric times until today.  

 

Archeological museum of Chora and Byzantine museum in Livadi area are open for visitors. Parchaeological site of Paleokastro (= Old Castle) is the largest fortified settlement on the island of Kythera pointed in the meddle of the island.

 

Also Chora, island capital, castle on top of the hill worth a visit especial with full moon, and old town of Kato Mylopotamos during sunset hours.

gASTRONOMY

The island is small but the local 

products and cuisine and characterised by amazing quality and flavours

Kytherian thyme honey, organic olive oil, sea salt, herbs and olive oil rusks became famous around the world thanks to their origin. Already belong to unique foods of Greek gastronomy. Sausages, Xerotigana, , Xinochontros (wheat frumenty with goat milk), oil cheese and cream cheese are the island’s most famous products. “Rozedes” are distinguished, a traditional sweet with honey, almonds, semolina, sugar and cinnamon, along with “Fatourada” a delicious liqueur made of Greek tsipouro and cinnamon clover.

Monasteries&Churches   

Kythera has a rich ecclesiastical history and tradition, with important archeological religious monuments of the byzantine and meta-byzantine periods, monasteries and pilgrimages of historical value, and literally three hundred churches and chapels, old and more recent.

The most important of the island is Panagia Myrtidiotissa. Other pilgrimages are Agia Moni,

Agios Ioannis in Kremnos, 

Monastery of Saint Theodorou 

and Agios Elessas.

Amazing position and history that worth a visit has Agios Georgios in the Mountain, above Avlemonas village.

waterfalls

Green oasis

Discover natural highlights and explore them easily in few hours. Near the village of Mylopotamos lies a green valley where you will find waterfalls.

Be brave to swim, the water is quite cold, even in summer but refreshing. This magical and green area, called Neraida, includes a few abandoned watermills, stone bridges and towering trees.

 

If you continue along the ravine, you will reach the beach of Kalami where you can take a refreshing dip and relax before heading back.

In the same category belong Amir Ali springs in Karavas area, that is a half a hour walk inside nature, combined with a visit to local shops
